Days Inn by Wyndham Selma

The staff accommodated my early check-in, and I had no trouble bringing my pet. The owner is trying to renovate, but there’s still a long way to go. There were patches all over the walls, a bad transition from floor to tile, and a mirror that was very loose on the wall. The furniture was in poor condition, and rubber base trim had been stapled to the wall. The mattress was disgusting, though I didn’t see any bugs. In its current condition, this isn’t the sort of room I’d expect to pay over $80 a night for.

I appreciated that they’re pet friendly, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean and gave us a decent place to sleep. Still, the TV service was awful, and neither the water cooler nor the ice machine worked. Breakfast was a joke, just plain bagels and bread. I also couldn’t figure out the shower: when I turned up the flow or temperature, it shut itself off.

We picked this motel because it was near our event, but it wasn’t what I expected from a Wyndham property. I had to look at three rooms before choosing one. The linens were stained, the rooms didn’t look or smell clean, and many lights were out. I found one I could be comfortable in once the manager replaced the bathroom bulb. There’s major road construction nearby, and GPS took us along closed roads, so getting there was an ordeal. Breakfast was only coffee and bagels, with nothing else to choose from. It’s a shame Wyndham doesn’t make sure the properties it represents are good.

The Saturday night clerk was nice. I was just stopping overnight while driving north, but the room had no bathroom light. The AC was blasting, and both knobs were stripped, so I couldn’t adjust the temperature or switch it to cool, fan, or heat. I didn’t ask for another room.
