Econo Lodge Selma - Smithfield

I asked the motel what two nights would cost for my brother, who is active duty, had injured his back, and was experiencing homelessness. They first quoted around $160, then dropped it to $134 after I explained the situation. We requested a non-smoking room, but it smelled of smoke. Then they charged me an extra $60 without my consent. When I went back to explain again and ask for a refund, they asked why he couldn’t stay with me, even though he’s allergic to cats and I have two. They then told me that I was infected refunded, but the charges were still on my bank statement and there was no proof of a refund. They refused to return the money. This is a shady place that took advantage of someone who fought for our country and his family. I’ll never suggest staying here. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room 235 was disgusting. Sand or sugar covered one of the two beds, the walls had holes and what looked like roach droppings, and the toilet seat was hanging on by one hinge. The tub looked like someone had just finished brushing their hair in it. The fridge wasn’t cold, so my dinner leftovers went to waste. There was puke at the top of the stairs to the upper level. I checked in at 4:30pm 9/8 and left at 7:00am 9/9, as shown in the photos. A horrible place, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m thinking of contacting corporate to try to get it shut down.

I drove from Quebec to Florida and booked this room because the listing said there was free breakfast. After asking about it in the morning, I was told there was no free food. If breakfast is an amenity, it wasn’t served today. Either way, saying breakfast is available and then not providing it is false advertising. That was the main reason I chose this hotel, and it was a real letdown. I was there from 12 AM to 10:45 AM, less than 12 hours, and the listing said $43 a day, but they tried to charge me $158. The rooms were a three, service was a three because someone asked if everything was okay and if I needed anything, and location was a four. I’d have given five stars, but because of the missing breakfast, the misleading ad, and the extra $115 they tried to charge over the $43 rate, I’m giving two.

I booked through a third-party site and had confirmation numbers and booking details, but when I tried to check in, the clerk said the card was declining and might be a scam. I’ve used that booking site before without a problem. He said I’d have to cancel and pay the full price there, which I wouldn’t do after already paying. He refused to honor the booking, wouldn’t give me his name or management’s number, and wouldn’t budge. It was 10 p.m., and I had nowhere to stay because of the desk clerk. I called corporate, and they spoke to him, but he refused to give them his name either. Corporate said he was rude and that they’d move forward with a formal complaint. Don’t waste your time or money here.
