Bear Lake Lodgings Bed & Breakfast

Bear Lake Lodging sits on a peaceful lake with canoes you can take out and explore, yet it’s only 10 minutes from town. If Seward’s wildlife is what you’re here for, it’s lovely to stay close to it instead of in town. The spacious bathroom was beautifully decorated and had a bath that was perfect for a soak after a cold day outside. Breakfast was filling and freshly made by the lovely women looking after the lodge. We enjoyed getting to know the other guests over wine in the evenings. One night, we cooked salmon we’d caught and shared it with a couple, one of whom was celebrating his birthday. It felt like staying with friends in a private home. It’s very popular, so book early.

The staff were down to earth and knew the area well, and the food was great. Our stay included kayaks and paddle boards, so we could use them whenever we liked. The quiet lake setting was just what our family wanted. My son put it perfectly: “It feels like a fun summer camp!” We’ll be back and can’t recommend it enough. One heads-up: drive slowly through the neighborhood. We saw a mother moose and her baby in the street as we approached.

We brought 12 students from an “Introduction to Maritime Trades” class to Seward. Having a shared lodge space for them to hang out was great, and they also had the option of relaxing in their own comfortable, quiet rooms. Bre was so welcoming and put a lot of thought into setting up the rooms for our students. We’d love to stay here again on our next trip.

The lake view from the comfortable, roomy bedrooms was spectacular: lotus flowers, birds, eagles, huge evergreens, a floating plane, and majestic mountains. The lodge was cozy and comfortable, and close enough to Seward that we could drive back and forth without a long trip. We appreciated having extra blankets and linens available, especially since we’re from Hawaii and aren’t used to the cold. The upstairs bathroom was handy at night; downstairs, the bathroom had plenty of counter space. The kitchen had what we needed, including an easy-to-use microwave, accessible dishes, a roomy fridge for our leftovers and drinks, and a little table where we could eat together. We didn’t cook, but those things came in handy. Bree, Skye, and Macy were thoughtful, kind, accommodating hosts. Breakfast was excellent, and we all loved the quiche. My daughter had never tried it and now counts it among her favorite breakfasts. I rediscovered yogurt and granola, and we all enjoyed the chia pudding and delicious, filling baked items. The family-style meals made it easy to chat with other guests and share stories. We also appreciated being able to use the kayaks and canoes, with a tutorial. We’d suggest adding bidets in the bathrooms to help offset the water and septic restrictions. We enjoyed our time at Bear Lake and will return next time we’re in Alaska. Aloha & Mahalo (Thank you).
