Odisha House of Rest

David was a friendly, thoughtful, and helpful host, and the rooms were clean and well kept. I thought the price was excellent for the value. Don’t let the parking lot looking empty part of the day put you off, someone has to be first. On my next trip to Shawano, I’ll include the Odisha House of Rest.

The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of pillows, and the room was clean apart from the carpet stains. Still, the dated room and its overall feel made me uncomfortable. There was carpet everywhere except the bathroom, and a plush recliner was set up facing the hot tub, which made the room feel like a porn set. The AC smelled so mildewy that we had to open the window for a while. There was only one bar of soap, which I didn’t want to share with my husband. The sink faucet was awful, sending water along the back so rinsing my hands took contortions. Around 1am, I woke to a horrible noise for about 15-20 minutes, which I think came from the plumbing pipes, maybe someone showering. Not a good night before a long day. The pool was closed until further notice with no explanation, though we hadn’t planned to swim. We paid $95 even though the sign without a hotel name said $45 rooms. I’m not sure if the charge was because of the hot tub, but we didn’t want or use it. My husband booked the room because we were going to a local event and it was available. At check-in, the desk man made me uncomfortable and acted as if we were doing something wrong. He asked for both IDs even though the reservation was in my husband’s name. When we handed in the keys, he went to inspect the room before processing the deposit refund. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels and motels and never had that happen. If we’d just left the keys in the room, would we have lost the deposit refund?

DO NOT STAY HERE! I left after my one-night stay and left the key cards in the room, but they kept my deposit because I didn’t check out at the desk. They said the sheets were nasty without explaining how. Even if the room had been disheveled, aren’t sheets and towels normally washed after every stay? This feels like a rip-off and a scam. DO NOT STAY HERE.

For one night, we paid $90 for a room with a jacuzzi tub. We enjoyed the space, fridge, TV, tub, and comfortable bed, and the room and shower were clean. The man at the front desk was kind and gave us free play coupons for the casino. We got the $100 deposit back without a problem, and would stay again.
