It’s kept in great shape, both inside and out. My room was spotless and in superb condition, and the strict rules seem to help maintain the property. Being set back from the main road also meant less of the usual traffic noise. I’d definitely recommend it.

The location worked perfectly for me, just a six-minute drive from Shelby high school, and I had a pleasant two-night stay with no complaints. I was in Shelby, North Carolina from Texas for the ALWS, when rooms were hard to find, so I was glad I could book here. Denise was kind when I arrived and apologized when something wasn’t satisfactory. There were a few cleanliness issues, but they didn’t bother me. You get what you pay for, and the good, honest customer service made a difference. I told Denise I’d come back.

We spent two nights in one of the studio suites. It was clean, safe, and well maintained, and the manager runs a tight ship. This feels more like a residence for longer stays than a regular hotel, but our visit was fine.

The manager was especially helpful, friendly, and kind. She stayed available to check me in after closing, then showed me around the hotel and the surrounding area. My room had a small kitchen, and there are laundry machines. It was quiet and comfortable. This is a no-frills place, so don’t expect things like soap, coffee, or paper towels in the room. It is clean, safe, and inexpensive, and I’d stay again if I’m in the area next year.

My apartment complex arranged a month at Affordable Suites in Shelby, NC while it was being renovated, and the manager’s treatment of me was disrespectful and discriminatory from the start. I arrived Friday, July 11th, and told her I had a service dog. She said I couldn’t have one. I explained calmly that federal law doesn’t set breed or weight limits for service animals, and even told her my dog’s breed and size to be respectful. She still tried to enforce a “25-pound weight limit.” When I reminded her about the ADA, she looked upset that I knew my rights. I ended up calling the police to explain the law. When they came, she claimed I’d said I had a huge Great Pyrenees, which I never said, apparently to make my dog sound frightening. The police told her she couldn’t turn away a legitimate service animal. She then gave a different reason, saying she just didn’t like me and I couldn’t stay. It felt like she was denying me because I stood up for my legal rights. Thankfully, the apartment complex helped me find somewhere else. My boyfriend’s sister is also staying there during renovations. She was told she couldn’t babysit other kids, and that her toddlers would be kicked out if they made noise. Toddlers! This is a run-down MOTEL, not some 5-star resort, and it’s being run like a prison camp. There’s also a strict “no smoking on the property” rule, but the same manager steps just outside the door and lights a cigarette at the entrance. The hypocrisy is hard to miss. Save yourself the stress and disrespect. The place is a joke, and the manager is rude, unprofessional, and miserable. I hope she finds happiness one day, because the way she treats people is disgraceful.
