Belmont Inn

It took me weeks to figure out how to describe this place, and I still think words don't do it justice. I came for events in Nashville, and the drive from Shelbyville wasn't difficult. Shelbyville itself is a neat place to see. The historic building has been beautifully restored, with lovely attention to detail. My room had original wood flooring and glass windows, beautiful furniture, amazing decor, and a comfortable bed. It was very clean, and check-in and check-out were easy. If history or beautiful things are your kind of thing, just stay here.

Mark & Linda are so nice and do a great job keeping the Belmont Inn beautiful. We loved how quiet it was, and our room was clean with a nice big bed. It was a relaxing break from busy city life. We'll definitely come back.

Netflix saved the day, and the bed was comfortable. That's about all I can say in its favor. There was no breakfast, just coffee and cellophane-wrapped oatmeal pies. The bathroom had no counter space, and someone had lined up a collection of household cleaners on the toilet. The shower was hard to explain: family-size bottles of soap and shampoo, but no lotion, water, drinking glass, or facial tissues. No robes either. The rooms had worn-out “leather” wingback chairs, wonky lampshades held on with zip ties, and phone chargers taped to extension cords. No public rooms, and although it looks like an open space, it's really a confined urban neighborhood that felt somewhat questionable. Parking was tight and hard to maneuver. I couldn't figure out why the room had an AC unit, air purifier, small white machine that seemed to blow cold air, and an oscillating fan covered in furry dust, unless they were trying to cover a mildew smell. There were water stains on the first-floor room's ceiling. Shabby, no chic. No amenities. The decor was “early yard sale.” Find another place to stay. Now I remember why I gave up on B&Bs and inns.

Please read the reviews in full. One guest disliked the Belmont Inn's cancellation policy but kept the reservation. Guests receive the policy when they book. Last-minute reservations are welcome when rooms are available. Once a room is reserved, it's removed from all online booking sites. If a guest cancels, the Belmont Inn credits the nights when it manages to reserve another guest in their place, but there are no guarantees.
