Tall Corn Inn

I was very upset and won’t come back. The manager said the money was nonrefundable when I asked for some of the charge back because there wasn’t even warm water. She said they’d suddenly been having plumbing issues. The water was cold, the microwave smelled burnt after use, and the light above the sink only worked when it felt like it, which seemed like a wiring problem. I told the manager about the microwave, but she said she’d never heard of that and hadn’t had it checked. The Wi-Fi didn’t work either, and the air conditioner started squealing. They gave us just one towel and one cloth for two people and two beds, so luckily I’d brought my own. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

The room was overpriced, with peeling floor, paint oversprayed on the walls, broken tables and lamps, and nowhere to sit except the beds or toilet. The tub drained as quickly as it filled, and the toilet made a loud whistling sound when flushed. We didn’t have towels in the room. When I asked for towels for three guests, I got one towel, one washcloth, one hand towel, and one bath rug, all with holes. The next morning they refused to give us more and said we had enough. I also asked for a hair dryer and was told maintenance had to screw it to the wall before I could have one. Good luck reaching the front desk, or finding anyone there. It’s only open when the staff aren’t at the Super 8 and it’s convenient for them.

We’ve stayed here several times while visiting my brother-in-law, and the rooms have always been clean with great service. When our Mom passed away and the funeral was in Shenandoah Iowa, the owners made sure we had accommodations and tried to make things easier. We usually stay in the Elvis room, which has a 50s and 60s feel, is clean and spacious, and has everything we need, including comfortable beds and bedding. We’ve stayed at the downtown hotel too, and it was nice, but the caring service here went above and beyond. The prices were great as well. You get large rooms, good service, breakfast, and things like a microwave and refrigerator. We love this place.

I was happy with my stay. The family who manages the hotel are from India and are wonderful people, and there’s truck parking available. It’s a beautiful setup, with suites too, and the rates are reasonable for construction workers. The place is kept pretty clean, though it needs updating. It’d be nice if the bar reopened, especially for construction workers and truck drivers.
