Homewood Suites by Hilton Shreveport

It’s cheap and not terrible, but it really needs work and I wouldn’t stay here again. The air coolers were painfully noisy while running and kept me awake. My room was dirty, the toilet roll holder was broken, the paint was peeling, and the wallpaper was coming off. The place is badly in need of maintenance. Breakfast was mixed. The waffles and cream were a big plus, and they had coffee all day, but there was no orange juice, just sugar water. I asked the front desk about changing rooms and got attitude. The manager, though, was very nice.

The two people who stood out in a good way were the customer service lady on the phone and the overnight front desk guy. They were good people, especially dealing with what seems like a mediocrely run business. The room was gross. We opened the sofa bed for the kids and found an awful lot of mess on it. The ottoman beside it was also disgusting. In the second room, the kitchen was gross and our shoes made sticky sounds on the tile just inside the door. I’m pretty sure someone had fried chicken in there. Finding that second room was a hunt too. The signs in the hotel are terrible, with no clear directions when you get off an elevator. The hallway light leaks all around the door jamb and lights up the room even when you turn off the lights. The bulbs were all harsh 5000K daylight ones that wash out the color and strain your eyes. Most people prefer softer 3000K to 3500K bulbs. Bring your Clorox wipes.

The morning meals are great, and everything else is fine. I’d like the property to consider bringing back dinner meals and drinks someday, since there’s no bar or restaurant here. My one issue is the mattresses. The owner or owners should invest in better ones because they seriously need updating. 😢

The staff were super sweet and attentive, and our room was clean and comfortable. We had a great experience and will definitely stay here next time we’re in the Lafayette area.
