Smedley's Suites

We stayed in the Spa Suite for a couple of days. The owner was friendly and helpful when we arrived, greeting us outside and giving us access to the mineral spas beneath our room. He’s very nice, though firm about the policies and unwilling to make exceptions. We called 10 days ahead because friends we’d been with had become very ill, and we were starting to have mild symptoms before the trip. We were told cancellation would still cost $250, the price of one night, so we went while sick rather than lose the money. The room was nicely put together and the bed was good, but the suite was noisy. Its access and windows face the alley between businesses, so there was plenty of noise from early morning into the evening. An outdoor walk-in fridge had a loud AC unit running at all hours, and vent pipes started making loud sounds early in the morning. We didn’t know bears walked around town at night. Around 3 am, one tried to get into the dumpster by our entrance. When the lid slammed shut, it woke me from a deep sleep. We also ate at the Smedly restaurant, where the food and service were very good. The owner's foreign exchange students who work there were friendly and attentive.

The spa and hot tubs were a real surprise, and access was included. My room also had lots of space, a decent kitchen, and a nice bathroom. It’s not a luxury hotel, there’s no AC, and you’ll climb stairs to reach the rooms. The main road runs by, with late night bars playing music nearby. I’d still stay here again.

Paul was really helpful with ideas for places to go, and he was very friendly. It’s a clean, rustic place in an excellent location. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

We spent five nights here and will definitely be back. The room was spacious and clean, and the large kitchen had everything we needed to cook. The owner and staff were kind and helpful throughout our stay. It snowed in June, and my husband saw staff clearing snow off our car. We really appreciated that kind of service. My one complaint is that the bed squeaked whenever you moved. Thanks for everything!
