Staybridge Suites Detroit Southfield by IHG

This was my last stay here. My first visit last year with some associates was clean, and the second was decent, but this time the place had really gone downhill for a newer hotel. The bedding looked used, with stains on the pillowcases that looked like hair dye or oil. Housekeeping had already left, so the front desk gave me clean sheets and I had to change them myself. Later I spotted stains on the front of the toilet bowl and asked to switch rooms. The bedding in the second room was clean, and I'd taken extra linens just in case. But both rooms had marks on the tables and walls. In the second one, some looked like food and others like little blood splatters. The doors were stained too. It seemed like walls, tables, and doors weren't part of the cleaning routine. Gross. For the price and a $150 hold, this was unacceptable. My partner and I waited a few hours, then left. I'll never come back.

The room was spacious, updated, clean, and comfortable, with a lovely bathroom and a huge shower that was perfect for two. My husband and I celebrated each other in room 410, and it felt like a perfect, quiet getaway. We could barely tell anyone else was in the hotel. The staff greeted us appropriately in the lobby and hallway, and the rooms, service, and location were all excellent. Thank you, Springhill Suites, for the unexpected anniversary gifts. We both really appreciated them, and we'll definitely return.

The pool wasn't working, and there was no hot tub even though the website says there is one. The shower also wouldn't get hot, and the comforter looked stained or dirty. There were a lot of homeless people very close by. On the plus side, the little kitchenette was nice, and they had evening snacks. Those were pleasant extras.

It's a nice, quiet hotel with plenty of amenities. I would have rated it five stars, but they put an unexplained $150 hold on my credit card without asking. I was only told the hold would be released in three business days. That's unacceptable. Luckily it wasn't my main card, and I needed those funds.
