The location is convenient, within walking distance of downtown Sparta, and the neighborhood seemed nice. The manager was okay and walked me to the room, switching on the lights and AC for me. Still, I wouldn't bring my family here. It's a dump, even though I've stayed in worse. This feels like a 1940s motel that needs major work: paint, fixtures, remodeling, carpet, beds, and more. It also needs more than a quick vacuum to get clean. The price might make sense at $25-30 a night, but not at two or three times that. I hate leaving a bad review, especially in a small town where people's livelihoods are involved. But if management's only response is “We're trying our best,” maybe they should consider another line of work.

For $70 a night plus tax, I expected more. The room has a mini fridge, but no microwave, and the furniture looks like it's from the 70s. Everything feels very outdated.

There were roaches, and the room looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Black mold covered parts of the walls and ceiling. I have photos and videos of it. The online pictures look years old and don't show what the rooms actually look or smell like. This was the most disgusting hotel I've ever been in. I'm calling the health department tomorrow. It needs to close before someone gets sick. I've never seen anything like it, and I feel for anyone who has to stay here. Please don't bring children or pets, I don't think the air is safe for them to breathe. The owners and management at Sparta Motel should be ashamed.

We drove in from the east coast for a three-day stay, but quickly asked for a refund and headed to O'Fallon instead. The “clean” sheets and pillowcases had stains, there was thick mold on the bathroom window, and dead bugs were on the floors. The motel should be condemned. I'd give it a quarter star if I could. Stay far away from this place.

We only stayed a week because every other place was sold out. It was the worst place I've ever been in. After showering, our feet and socks got dirty just from walking around, so we bought bleach and a mop at wal mart and cleaned the floors and shower ourselves. Believe the other reviews.
