Spearfish Cottages

The location was nice, but we found room number 11 seriously lacking in comfort. My wife was disappointed there was no stove like in the pictures, though that may have been our oversight when booking. The deck was in bad shape, with several holes in broken or rotted boards that I stepped into at night and nearly fell through. Inside, the floor wasn't level, which made it hard to walk straight. After our five-hour drive in extremely cold weather, my wife wanted a hot shower, but the water turned ice cold after five minutes. I just wanted a good night's sleep, but the bed felt like a rock, the pillows were hard and lumpy, and there was only one blanket. The mattress was like memory foam that had remembered someone else. It was so hard, then slowly sank to fit your shape, leaving a crater that was hard to get out of or roll over in. One blanket is normal at most hotels, but with only five minutes of hot water, baseboard electric heat, and -8 F outside, it wasn't enough. I tossed and turned all night and could barely stand up in the morning. It's a cute, cabin-like room, but these deal-breaking problems weren't visible in the pictures. Maybe it would suit a younger couple after a particular experience. For travelers over 40 who just want a good night's rest before moving on, I'd recommend staying elsewhere. The reviews seemed a little misleading.
