The location still works well for me, and there’s great parking for the boat, but the stay has gone downhill as the price has gone up. I’ve stayed here many times over the years. This time the office was locked and no one was around at check-in, so I had to call the emergency number. The rooms smelled musty, and the floor in my grandson’s room was soaking wet with mold on the carpet. They switched his room right away. The advertised bar and grill had no grill, so we drove into town for food. On Saturday night, music from the bar vibrated the walls in my room well past midnight.

It’s easy to find, right off the highway, and the room and bathroom were clean and cozy. The shower was spacious with good water pressure. Breakfast was offered, though we didn’t try it. The price is competitive for the area. A good place to stay if you’ll be out exploring most of the time.

Lunkers Lounge was welcoming to bikers coming off the trail. We could get a much-needed cold drink and something to eat, and they kindly filled our water bottles for the road. They sometimes have live music and occasional food trucks.

The breakfast was a bit of a joke: Pop-Tarts, bagels, toast, just one kind of jelly, and free coffee. The place has a new name, Okoboji Lodge, but the owners haven’t updated the sign, so it’s hard to tell if you’ve arrived at the right spot. You have to go into the bar and ask the bartender. Check-in is at the busy bar too. Strange place.
