Super 8 by Wyndham Spirit Lake/Okoboji

One of our motorcycles broke down while we were on a trip, and Super 8 was nearby. We stopped to ask about a room and early check-in; they had one available and let us check in early without a fuss. The staff handled the situation really well, even giving us a ground floor room so we could keep an eye on the bike. The room was spacious, clean, and newly renovated. No complaints, and we’d stay again without hesitation. It’s a nice place in a nice, safe town.

We were there just for one night, and it was decent. The beds were clean and comfortable enough, and the fridge worked, so I kept my water bottle in it overnight. There wasn’t much room to spread out our luggage, though, apart from using the bed. We had two double beds. Someone had tracked mud through the first floor common areas, and it hadn’t been cleaned up. We also had to call to get the employee to the desk both for check-in and checkout. There’s no elevator for getting bags up to the second floor, and nobody offered to help. We peeked into the breakfast nook but hadn’t planned to eat there. We wanted to find a local place with some history. My main annoyance was a bass beat that went on all night. We both heard it even with a white noise machine running. I assume it came from a nearby business or home rather than another hotel room, though I can’t be sure. The hotel may not have been able to do anything about it.

The whole place was nice and clean, breakfast was good, and the desk staff were very professional. I’d stay here again.

It’s pretty meh. The room was relatively clean, and at least the kitchen stays open enough that they don’t lock up the milk, for what that’s worth. The internet keeps timing out and sucks, the shower takes ages to heat up, and the front desk is often empty. You have to call from the desk phone, then wait about five minutes for someone to speed into the lot from wherever they call home. Family run joint.
