Best Western Clearlake Plaza

The room’s vintage golden-yellow paint and lighting gave it a relaxing feel. The beds were super comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. The hotel is a bit older than some, without revolving doors at the front, but I was blown away by how clean it was and by the wonderful service. I’ve liked Best Western for years and wasn’t disappointed this time. The rate fit my budget, and the location suited my long drive into this part of town from another state. I had trouble with the ironing board, left the iron on the sink to cool, and put the board away. When I came back, they’d already replaced it, even though I hadn’t told anyone it was broken.

The rooms and furniture are a little old, but still nice and clean. We spotted quite a few random bugs, including small beetles and true bugs, but no roaches. It was quiet, breakfast was nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Pet friendly too.

We’re Diamond members and travel a lot. BW used to be our go-to, but that’s over. On the way to Springfield IL Clearlake, our car had mechanical trouble, so I called early to tell the desk we wouldn’t make it and that the room would be available. The next day, the charge I got was $145 and a “no show.” Diamond sounds grand, but I guess it doesn’t mean much. Goodbye BW, it’s been great, but I can’t do business with you anymore. Sincerely.

I’ve stayed here at least twice a year for eight years and have generally been satisfied with the rooms and service. It’s not fancy or up to date, but the location works well for us, with a gas station, Walgreens, McDonalds, and Starbucks right nearby. I was glad to see Mary at the night desk again. She’s a staple and always great to work with. This visit, they required a $100 damage deposit that wasn’t mentioned when I booked or in the confirmation email. The room had a very strong air freshener smell, which gave my smell-sensitive family headaches. I’m debating whether we’ll stay again.
