La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Springfield South

We keep coming back when we’re in Springfield. The rooms are reasonably priced and clean, and the atmosphere is pleasant. There are also good areas to walk the dog. Toni kept the breakfast room tidy and stocked, and she was friendly every time we saw her. She always greeted us and checked whether we needed anything.

The location felt safe and was handy for tourist spots, food, and shopping. The room itself was clean and roomy, and the night clerk greeted me warmly. After I told her how far the room was from the elevator, she apologized and offered a different option if I stayed another night. Service like that helped, but the room arrangement was still a major problem for someone with mobility challenges. I had booked an accessible room for a guest with significant health issues, yet it was on the second floor at the opposite end of the hall from the elevator. The bed was also extremely uncomfortable. Its edge was the hardest part of the mattress, unlike anything I’d felt before, and it had almost no padding. It seemed very outdated. At checkout, nobody asked how the night or the bed had been, only whether I wanted a receipt. For $150, the stay fell far short of what I expected. I gave the room two stars because it was clean and spacious, service three because of the clerk’s helpful response, and location five. If the bed had been even moderately comfortable, I might have been able to overlook some of the distance inconvenience. I learned not to book online without asking about the room’s location and bed first, and to sit on the mattress before agreeing to stay.

The woman making breakfast was especially friendly and helpful. She told me cooking for everyone was her favorite part, said she loved the practice, and thanked me for staying. Everyone was super friendly, and the place felt nice, clean, and safe.

The room was clean and well appointed, with fresh-smelling air, clean sheets, and a clean tub. The bed was comfortable enough for a solid night's sleep after a tiring trip. The location is quiet and convenient, with restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, and drugstores within a couple of miles. Check-in was easy, especially since we usually check in online beforehand. There’s an elevator and luggage carts, an indoor pool, vending machines with microwavable food, snacks, soda, coffee, and ice. The common areas were clean and comfortable, though dimly lit. The lobby was so dark it felt creepy, and the rest of the shared areas could use more light too. The tub had recently been refinished and was extremely slippery. I lost my footing getting in, but luckily there was a grab bar. Use the rubber mat they leave on the back of the toilet before stepping in. The elevator sign said the third floor was for business travelers and requested quiet and no pets, but we heard two dogs barking there. I told the front desk and they did nothing. Breakfast was another disappointment. At 9:30, the woman working the area announced she wouldn’t cook anything else, even though breakfast runs until 10 and was part of what I paid for. If I want eggs at 9:45, I expect them to be available. The pool was clean, but there’s no hot tub. I’d stay again because cleanliness and safety are nonnegotiable for me, but anyone who cares most about breakfast will find much better elsewhere.
