Red Roof Inn Springfield, IL

The staff are courteous, but replacing towels and sheets has been a little slow. I’m not sure which days they collect dirty linen or how often it gets exchanged. I expected fresh linen when I renewed my stay, with the used things picked up, but that hasn’t happened. The dirty linen and towels have been taken, and I’m still waiting for clean ones.

Last-minute booking, super affordable, friendly staff, and the neighbors seem chill. I can’t be mad about it, but there’s a cockroach problem on at least the ground floor where we’re staying. It’s understandable, but they could control it better. If you’re deathly afraid of roaches, be aware. Tbh I’ll be sleeping with the lights on lol.

The toilet wasn’t flushing right, and although there was a plunger, I found out in the morning that the chain inside the toilet was the problem. The room also smelled like smoke even though I booked a non-smoking king. There were stains on the walls, mold on the shower curtain, a dirty tub, and the walls looked rough. There wasn’t a smoke detector. I was told they were painting and renovating, but if so, I should’ve been put in a room that wasn’t under renovation. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

On May 23 last year, I stayed at the Red roof inn in Springfield Illinois and had an absolutely horrendous night. As a rewards member, I complained to guest services, one of the membership perks. The hotel later reimbursed $15.95 of my bill. I wasn’t happy because I felt the room should’ve been comped after what I went through, but I figured I’d never go back. Then exactly eight months later, I saw a $15.95 charge on my card, taking back that refund. Customer service says he denies doing it. I have a screenshot of the original receipt from before he corrected it, plus all the emails. The card used to pay for the room wasn’t supposed to be kept, and it isn’t the card on file with corporate for my rewards membership. The folio closed on May 26th, 2025, so I don’t understand how he still had access to the card eight months later and could charge it while denying it. My bank can’t act until the charge processes or drops off. They froze my account so nothing can go in or out, started an investigation, and are sending a new card that won’t arrive until February 7th. I just got paid, and now my bills can’t be paid and I have no access to my money until the card arrives. I called back and told them this was unacceptable. I filed police reports with the state of Maine and Springfield Illinois Police department, and on Wednesday I’ll call the Springfield Illinois attorney state attorney to make sure they’re pursuing charges. I also reported it to the FBI because this is straight-up fraud. How many other people did this happen to, whether they caught it or not? I’m making this public and tagging @red roof inn.
