MainStay Suites Springfield IL

I left before checking in because I’d had enough of the runaround. The receptionist found my reservation but said the room I’d booked wasn’t available and there were no rooms that matched it. He offered a suite for almost twice the price of my confirmed rate. While we were discussing it, another customer came up and he quickly went to deal with their problem. I said I’d consider the suite if I was charged the rate I’d originally reserved. He said he’d show us the room, but ran off as we got to the elevator, so I left. The lobby smelled of marijuana when we walked in. I’d also noticed that a “NOW OPEN” sign mentioned in a review from two months earlier was still there that day. To me, Choice Hotel is a “get what you pay for” brand: the cheaper its hotels are, the crappier they are.

The front desk guy was so nice, and none of this was his fault. I didn’t stay. Every floor and the room were dirty, with food left on the counter, and the pool was drained, so the website needs updating. The photos don’t look anything like the inside. I left in tears because I’d never seen such a filthy hotel, and there was no way my child was going to step inside. They were doing updates, but the whole place was in shambles and there was only one construction worker. I didn’t actually see any updates, just filth. This is pathetic. Please close the doors.

The rate was right and the location was convenient. When our TV stopped working, Kevin fixed the problem quickly, so we could get back to relaxing and enjoying some downtime. We’ll definitely come back. Thanks, Kevin 😁🤗

The rooms are old, but the beds are extremely soft. The sheets were clean and the towels were fairly white, so it wasn’t bad overall. Nearby food options are mostly fast food, like McDonald's, Arby's, and Long John Silvers. The weekly rate is a cheap $299.
