Marriott Springfield Downtown

The rooftop was a perfect location for the 30-person event my business partner and I were planning for people mostly from Springfield. We contacted the venue five separate times to tour the space and book a date if it suited our needs, but nobody ever returned our calls. We were told to ask for the sales manager, which we did, and still heard nothing. It's sad that more events don't happen downtown, but this kind of response makes it easy to understand why.

The room was clean and the employees were nice, but we found signs that it had been broken into before we checked in. The phone in our room didn't work either. When I went to tell the front desk, they offered another room, but we liked the view and decided to stay. I showed the desk person the pictures, and she said it hadn't been broken into, though she couldn't explain what had happened. It still bothered me.

The fitness and pool area were nice, and the staff were polite. My room was clean, well kept, and laid out thoughtfully, with genuinely good soft, supportive bedding. But the A/C seemed broken or far too weak. It stayed hot and stuffy all night no matter how I adjusted the thermostat, and I barely slept. The lobby was just as warm and stagnant the next morning, with no cool air or circulation. For a Marriott hotel of this caliber, I expected basic climate control. If you're visiting in warmer months or don't tolerate heat well, check with the hotel about the A/C first. Until that's fixed, I can't recommend it for a comfortable stay.

The planning and billing left us disappointed, and we won't personally recommend this place. Our planner was often unresponsive for most of the year, then was suddenly replaced without any notice to us. My husband and I were charged a late fee and an extra night, and when we raised the mistake, they weren't receptive to refunding us. The brunch we had arranged was cut short because guests were told to leave early for another event using the same space. Our guests also made various complaints about staff being unfriendly and fixtures in their rooms not working. We chose the place for family and friends staying for our wedding, but the experience wasn't good.
