We loved wandering the gardens, with flowers everywhere and little discoveries among them: old tools, antique toys, vintage car parts, and a 1964 Chevy Suburban. The grounds were an adventure on their own. Phyllis welcomed us at the door and walked us to our room, telling us stories along the way. She made us feel at home right away. The room was small, but with its vintage furnishings and cozy 1950s feel, it reminded me of my grandmother’s house. We enjoyed it the whole time. Rockwood Motor Court has been welcoming travelers since 1926 and is recognized as the oldest continuously operating motor court on Route 66. As road trip and Americana fans, we thought staying somewhere with that history was really special. It felt like a little piece of the past. This place has plenty of character and warmth, a nice change from the sameness of chain hotels. We arrived as guests and left feeling like we’d found a hidden treasure on Route 66. We can’t wait to return.

Route 66 travelers will find the old car trip atmosphere they’re after here. Rockwood Motor Court brings back the look and feel of motor courts in the 1950s and 60s. The whole property, indoors and out, is creatively decorated, with lovely landscaping and spots to gather with a group or spend time alone. It’s been fully refurbished and renovated. The rooms are on the small side, though, and the bed may be a tight fit for larger people. We’re both small, and it felt cramped even for us. That was common for lodging back then, I suppose.

Rockwood was peaceful and relaxing, and Phyllis and Tim made sure we were comfortable. We stayed in the Historic Route 66 room, which had a comfortable queen bed, a sitting area, and everything we needed. Phyllis showed me to the room herself and shared a little about it. When I asked about dinner, she suggested College Street Cafe, so we went there. It’s a quaint, beautiful property. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The room was just right for two, with a coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, and TV with lots of channels. It was clean and had all the basics, plus snacks and bottled water in the fridge. The Route 66 books, pictures, clock, and curtains gave the place a really cute, nostalgic feel. The owner was so nice and accommodating. We’ll definitely stay again.

We had a clean queen suite with a comfortable bed and a small couch, and everything we needed for one night. Each room is in its own little building, which gives the motor court a cute feel. There’s also a nice outdoor patio with tables. I’d recommend it for a Route 66 trip.
