Americas Best Value Inn & Suites St. Marys

I especially want to thank Michelle and all the staff for being so kind and ready to help me today. The place is thoughtfully run, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast room is nicely stocked. You guys are amazing 🩷

We were in town for a race at Eldora Speedway, and I’ve never stayed anywhere this awful, even though I travel all the time. The smell was terrible in both rooms, and we got bites on our legs and torso. I bought plastic at Walmart to cover the beds and an air freshener to try to deal with the odor. Now my suitcase is sitting in the shed because I’m afraid to bring it into my house. We first got a king smoking room, which was awful, so they moved us to a non-smoking room with two double beds, room 268. It was just as bad. The air conditioner was filthy, probably blowing mold and must through the room, and the ironing board cover was stained all over. It felt like stepping back into the 70s and badly needs a makeover. I contacted the property and spoke with Debbie. She said Orkin had been there and there were no issues, but something was biting us, bed bugs or fleas. She was rude on the phone. She also said the beds were replaced a year ago, which I don’t believe. We booked because the ratings were good, an 8.2, so I was shocked. Don’t stay here.

The staff were very nice, and there’s a decent fitness room with good equipment. Breakfast was good, too. The room felt a bit shabby and run down, but it had a fridge, microwave, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. The TVs are tiny, though they do have DirecTV and Showtime, and the parking lot is somewhat cramped. There’s an on-site restaurant, plenty of other restaurants nearby, and a grocery store across the street. The small pool looked well kept.

We picked the non-smoking king suite for our honeymoon because of the jacuzzi tub, and it was wonderful. The water got nice and hot, and the jets felt so good. The room was clean and cozy, with a super comfortable bed, and the area was very quiet. The old kitchenette appliances all worked. Staff said they’re working on remodeling, so I’m looking forward to seeing that. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and courteous. We only made it to breakfast once, right as it was ending, so we had oatmeal and other packaged things and can’t really judge the hot food. The coffee was fresh and really good, though. We’ll have to try the pizza next time. Thanks to everyone who made our stay so great!
