I really loved my stay here. The owner was so pleasant and accommodating, and at Christmas the decorations were beautiful. The place was quite clean, with fairly spacious rooms and bathrooms, and it looked lovely. The only hard part was hauling my bags up the staircase. Still well worth the effort.

We’ve been here a couple of times and love coming back. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the interior woodwork is beautiful. It’s quiet and clean, the staff are friendly, and breakfast is good. Every stay has been perfect for us.

Breakfast tasted good, but the portions were very small and there was no choice except for the drink. You only get 20 minutes at your assigned seating time, apparently because staff need 10 minutes to reset the table. That makes it hard to linger over coffee or meet the other guests. If you’re on a special diet or prefer a medium to large breakfast, this place won’t suit you. The only other gathering spot has four chairs pushed into corners, so it’s awkward to sit and chat with your group. There’s no daytime beverage service or snacks for guests. This Bed and Breakfast is a mixed bag. The bed was comfortable, nights were quiet, the air conditioning worked well, and the shower had plenty of hot water. But for a three-night stay, each person got just one pillow, towel, washcloth, and hand towel. There were no towels at the pool. The pool water was clear, but big patches of dirt on the bottom remained throughout our stay. Thin blinds and curtains that won’t close let in a lot of light. The bathroom counters, tub, and room surfaces were clean, but there was embedded grime around the bathroom tile edges, clearly waxed over. The decor is shabby chic. Our room’s smoke detector was hanging open without a battery. The host said there were other working detectors on my floor and I shouldn’t worry. The hosts’ service attitude varied from pleasant and accommodating to snarly and impatient. The place is in the center of town, within walking distance of a movie theater and several restaurants.

Breakfast was a letdown. The French toast was soggy with strawberry “something” on top, and as vegetarians we didn’t eat the pale sausage patty. We were enjoying a conversation with the other guests when the host told six of us to leave after 30 minutes so another group could be seated. The house itself is charming, and when we called, Richard gave us directions to our room. No one was there to greet us when we arrived. Our room was on the third floor, up narrow flights of stairs. We’re over 70 and managed it, but people our age might not find it easy, especially with no one around to help with luggage. The dated bedroom had a stained wall, apparently from leaks, poor lighting, a not very comfortable mattress, flat pillows, and threadbare towels. The birdhouse collection was a nice touch, though. We stayed one night at the Cozy Afghan while visiting Elk County. We usually like B & Bs, but this one needs some improvement. It cost less than other places in town, but I think they could update it a little, charge a bit more, and leave everyone satisfied.

We had a big, beautiful room with a fireplace and a huge bathroom, and breakfast was ready for us and delicious. The staff were so nice and friendly. This place was perfect, and I can’t wait to stay again!
