We paid $800+ per night, and the stay didn’t live up to the hype. I like St. Michael’s, but I’ll look at other places next time. I never got the survey I was told would follow, so here’s my review. At check-in I asked for a quiet room and was assured we had one. Instead, it was on the second floor at the top of the stairs, with hallway noise at all hours, including kids running around. The food was disappointing, mediocre at best. We ordered from the bar once and had room service breakfast twice. On the second day, my husband’s mushroom omelet was just a dry outer egg wrap with diced mushrooms and nothing else inside. We also had a food and beverage package, but still had to pay gratuity even when the meal totals were below the daily allowance. One night we wanted to make s’mores, but every prepackaged bag had hard, stale marshmallows. There aren’t many amenities to enjoy, especially in winter. These may seem like small annoyances, but they matter at this price.

Even in the dead of January, after the historic ice and snow storm, the Inn felt buzzy, and the staff made the whole visit warm and relaxed. People kept saying hello and checking in around the property. Andrea, who served us at both the Pub and Stars Restaurant, was a favorite, as was Brad’s history talk in the library and the truly exceptional spa team. They went above and beyond for our special occasion, leaving a sweet onesie in our room when we arrived. We spent three nights here for our babymoon and were blown away. The room was comfortable and well appointed, and we enjoyed the spa and both restaurants. Breakfast especially stood out, even in the quieter season. The shuttles to and from town were really convenient and meant we didn’t have to deal with parking. It was our first visit, and after this experience we’d come back in winter or during the busier season.

The sunset over the water was surreal, and the food at Stars and Purser's was top notch. The spa was excellent, too, and St Michael's is close by with plenty to offer for a tiny town. We had a wonderful birthday staycation with my wife, and the inn’s scenery and atmosphere let us really recharge and unwind. The staff were attentive, the grounds immaculate. Definitely one of the best resorts in the Mid-Atlantic, and highly recommended.

The room had a lovely water view and was fantastic, and the hotel offered us a $50 credit toward the bill as a goodwill gesture. I appreciated that they at least recognized the problems. My fiancée and I were there for one night to celebrate our engagement, but it felt far from the five-star experience we expected. The flagpole right outside our room clanged in the wind all night, leaving us with only about two hours of sleep. The bed was so soft and uncomfortable that it felt like we were on the springs, and I moved to the couch because it sagged so much. The room was about 75 degrees when we checked in, and the HVAC didn’t cool it properly, so we ran the fan in the living area instead of over the bed. I know it wasn’t peak season, but this was very different from my previous stay at the hotel.

We splurged a little for a room with a view and were glad we did. The hotel has lovely grounds and a great vibe, is an easy walk to town, and has bikes guests can use. The wedding crashers theme is everywhere, from items on the bar menu to people literally getting married beneath our balcony. Service was decent but could have been better. My custom morning coffee somehow got lost in transit. The bar staff were friendly, and the front desk and maintenance staff were great and very helpful. We loved the stay and will come back with friends, or when we renew our vows.
