The place seemed reasonably clean, but the way I was treated made me look elsewhere when I wanted to extend my stay. I’d asked for a different, clean ice bucket because I’m germ-phobic and never use ice anyway. The older gentleman acted as though I’d insulted his family. Later, after he’d suggested I book a nearby room and said he could switch it so I could stay in mine, I came back from smoking and called my husband. The owner was there when I went down to check how the switch would work. He was rude, kept pointing at me, and continued even after I mentioned my PTSD. He reconsidered extending my stay only when he thought he heard that I wanted to add my husband and stay 90 days. My husband joked that he must have thought he heard 90, but no. We’re looking elsewhere. I heard I’d have to check out, clear my things, and then be let back into the room. They kept saying I’d been complaining, when all I’d asked for was a new ice bucket. I hadn’t complained; I’d posted photos to show I had reasons and wanted to stay longer. Earlier, they nearly charged my card twice, for $191.38. I stood at the counter for 15 minutes while the owner’s son ran around, played with the ice machine, and slapped his grandma. The older man at the desk was on the phone with tech support about the card charge. He told me that once he was off the phone, it was me, and that he couldn’t have given me the room I’d already reserved through Agoda for $216.66 over it.
When I was checking out, a giant cockroach ran across the wall. I asked for a refund, but management refused. They were unpleasant and unprofessional about it, too. The place is bug-infested and dirty, and there are other clean options in the area at similar prices. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
The lake view from our room was the one good thing. Inside, scorch marks and mystery stains were everywhere, and the drawers were disgusting, with orange sticky residue. They also had what looked like complimentary weed scattered in them, as shown in my photo. There was no clothes iron, just a rock and a half-burned bundle of sage. Black mold covered the curtain and AC unit. I’d tell people to find another hotel. I forgot to check reviews before booking, so that’s on me. I drove for 11 hours and passed out, so I didn’t raise the problems until checkout. The front desk guy told me to call the next day to speak with a manager, so I contacted corporate, something I’ve never done before. Today I got a response saying nothing was wrong and it was my fault for waiting until checkout. Whoever handled my case either didn’t hear or didn’t record what I said: they seemed to think I meant a different juice, and there was no mention of the black mold. It’s a horrible place, and I’ll keep fighting for my refund. To whoever replied to this review, don’t pmo.
We found several German cockroaches and took photos, and the bedding had nasty stains. It looked like they put slightly cleaner sheets on top instead of changing the bedding. After this weekend, it feels like we need to burn our clothes and our children’s clothes. This place says it’s a two-star hotel, but it deserves no stars. A refund is in order, and I’ll be calling the health department.
I’ve stayed here before, and the older gentleman at the desk has always been great. This time, a different employee questioned me when I asked for no housekeeping: “What do you have to hide?” and “Why don’t you want them in there?” I calmly said I have a legal right to privacy in a paid room. He claimed “the law changed after Vegas/California” and threatened, “If you don’t want to be here you can just leave.” They don’t provide Do Not Disturb signs, either. There was no emergency or disturbance. I wanted privacy the day before my birthday, and I felt unsafe and disrespected. Train staff on actual Missouri laws. I’m filing with the Missouri AG Consumer Protection office and disputing the charges. I have evidence of the whole interaction from when I went looking for a Do Not Disturb sign. The housekeeper never even knocked, but it became a big mess and I was told I had no right to privacy. That isn’t right. If I need to upload my video here, I will. You’d better change your response. Actually, I’ll start the civil litigation process. Thanks for responding instead of admitting fault and doing better. The employee also said Missouri law supports guests’ quiet enjoyment, cited RSMo § 441.060 and Vantage Credit Union v. Chandler, 253 S.W.3d 104 (Mo. App. 2008), and said unauthorized entry can be trespass under RSMo § 569.140. He called threatening eviction for asserting privacy retaliatory and an unfair practice under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act, RSMo § 407.020. Cool older guy: five stars. This experience: zero.
