Hyatt Place St. Petersburg / Downtown

I’ve stayed at this Hyatt a few times, most recently Feb 18-20. It’s a typical Hyatt Place, clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced. The front desk team were good, but Leslie and the other breakfast and kitchen staff are what made this property stand out. My traveling companion asked if they had oatmeal because all the toppings were on display. Leslie explained they were waiting on a delivery or something with the steamer. We went ahead with breakfast, and a few minutes later she brought my companion an oatmeal packet from home, for her own breakfast. She did the same the next day. Leslie, I hope I’m not embarrassing you by sharing this. I wanted you to know you’re appreciated. That kind of kindness is why I’m a loyal Hyatt guest.

Neesa at reception was friendly and professional from the start, assigning our room quickly and giving us the information we needed. We had a corner room on the 11th floor, one of the largest hotel rooms I’ve had. A hallway separated the living area from the entrance, and a small partition divided the comfortable pullout sofa and sectional from the king bed. The sofa area worked well for getting work done. The room was very clean. There was a small coffee maker, though we got coffee in the lobby with breakfast instead. Breakfast was free and had good gluten-free options. The hotel was about two blocks from the water and a quick 15-minute walk from the Dali museum. There was an outdoor market on Saturday. Clubs seemed to be across the street, but traffic wasn’t too bad when we got back that evening. We couldn’t hear outside noise in the room, and the blackout shade kept the lights out. The 5th-floor gym was decent, with good options, city views through a wall of windows, and towels, water, and earbuds for guests. The heated pool on the 7th floor wasn’t large, but had plenty of chairs and seemed suited to families with small kids. We had a wonderful stay.

There was a constantly changing low vibration noise in my top-floor room that kept me awake during the nights I was there. The hotel was apparently full, so there wasn’t another room to move to. They offered no compensation, just a pair of earplugs from the front desk. Apart from that, expect a decent stay in a very accessible spot near the docks, good food, and entertainment. There are plenty of other places nearby too. Parking at the hotel cost a little more, but felt worth it for the security.

We stayed for our 35th anniversary and hated having to leave. The location was perfect, and we walked everywhere we wanted to go each day except when we drove to the beach. Breakfast was good, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. Even with lots of people around, it was quiet. We never heard noise from the halls or neighboring rooms. The staff were very friendly, and this was probably our favorite stay in a long time. One GPS tip: if you think you haven’t arrived, you probably have. The building’s exterior blends in with the downtown vibe, so we drove past it at first. Look up for the Hyatt logo at the top.
