My company sent me here, so I didn't have much choice. Given the Choice Hotel branding, I expected something closer to my other stays with CHI, but that expectation was badly misplaced. It might do if all you need is a place to sleep while passing through. I'd look elsewhere in the area, especially if you need to walk to nearby amenities. The property is dated, not ideally located, and has dirty stucco, litter, and cigarette butts outside. The luggage carts in the vestibule need replacing, though it looks like the owner keeps patching them up. My room had an odd smell I hadn't encountered in a hotel before, though it wasn't bad. The bathroom was tiny, with a toilet and step-in shower behind a pocket door. There was rust on the towel rack, grime behind the toilet, and a red spotty substance by the supply line that might have been clay, dirt, or something biological. I couldn't tell. The fan was caked with dust, there was a large hole in the wall by the toilet paper holder, and the shower handle was very loose. The shower also seemed overdue for a deep clean and felt close to the end of its life. I worried the fiberglass might break when I stepped in. Outside that room, the sink was cracked and the lights above it dusty. The carpet badly needed cleaning, and the artwork above the beds was dusty too. The nightstand outlets were worn and wouldn't hold a plug securely, and the same was true of the lamp by the TV. The room had a dorm-size fridge and microwave, plus a small LCD TV with no channel list, so I had to flip through every channel. The desk chair wouldn't adjust, its lock failed more than once, and the left armrest was missing a lot of its covering, as if chewed. The AC worked but was quite noisy. There was a black-looking substance in the corner of the window above the unit that might have been mold. I didn't try the continental breakfast. Finally, there was a wide gap between the door and frame, and it seemed easy to slip something through and move the swing lock. Use the deadbolt, or put something else down, perhaps a door alarm. I'd rate this location 3.75 out of 10. It wasn't what I expect from a CHI branded property.
The room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything I needed to unwind after a long day. The staff were attentive, professional, and welcoming from the moment I arrived, and the amenities and atmosphere made the stay feel inviting and luxurious. I had a wonderful visit and would gladly come back. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for comfort and great service.
My teenage son had a flat tire across the street in cold weather and went into the hotel to wait somewhere warm while I drove over. I was less than 10 minutes away. Patel insisted he leave and wouldn't let him sit in the lobby briefly, saying it was only for guests. There was no effort to check whether he was a guest or show basic concern for a minor in distress. Letting him wait safely for a few minutes wouldn't have disrupted the hotel. As a Choice Hotels member, I found this unacceptable. The way my son was treated also worried me. He's an African American teenager, and he was shown no compassion or discretion, which made the encounter feel racially motivated and discriminatory. He had to leave the property and walk to a gas station to wait for me, which was unnecessary and concerning in those conditions. After this, I'll never stay at a Choice Hotels property again. This reflects badly on the hotel's commitment to customer service, safety, and respect for the community.
For what it costs, this place is a good deal. It’s an older property with spacious, clean rooms, though it’s a little worn. The hallway and room carpets are stained, the bathrooms look somewhat shabby, and breakfast is very limited.
The room at the Sleep Inn in Statesville NC smelled strongly of dog urine, like a dog had slept and peed in the bed. On top of that, I stayed October 7th 2025 - October 13, 2025, and they kept the hold on my debit card, then charged the same amount again on October 15, 2025. I had to call my bank and explain what happened to get the funds released back to my card. Sleep Inn has been giving me the runaround for the past couple of days. They can be sure I won’t stay there again. I give them a damn thumbs down and wouldn’t advise anyone to book a room there. 😒🤬🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡😡😡😒
