The breakfast was a highlight. Ross had made the homemade strata and ham-and-cheese pie from scratch, and I'd watched him working on them the day before. Both were delicious. Vivian, our server, was warm and welcoming, happy to chat, and a great source of local information. There's a lot of care in the way this place is run, and Ross and his wife also run a local cat rescue. If you're a cat lover, I'm sure Ross would be glad to talk about it over breakfast or at check-in. We loved staying at The Frederick House in Staunton, Virginia. From my first phone call, when I spoke directly with owner Ross, I could tell it would be special. He and his wife have looked after this historic property for nearly a decade, and it shows. Our room was charming, comfortable, spotless, and beautifully appointed. Everything worked as it should. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in for a while, even compared with the Embassy Suites in Knoxville where we'd stayed the night before. You couldn't ask for a better location, right in downtown Staunton and within walking distance of restaurants, shops, museums, and live theater. Staunton is a gem on a road trip through this part of the country, and Frederick House puts you in the middle of it. The Wi-Fi was surprisingly strong and dedicated to each building, which would make it easy to get work done while traveling. They do the bed-and-breakfast part exceptionally well. This is a historic inn with character, warmth, and comfort. If you appreciate a personal touch, good conversation, walkability, and a good night's rest, you won't be disappointed. We give The Frederick House our highest recommendation and will absolutely be back.

We return to The Frederick House again and again. The rooms are all different, spacious, clean, and well kept. It's only steps from some of the best restaurants in Staunton and the amazing Blackfriers theater. Breakfast is simple, excellent food, and the coffee is always hot, delicious, and plentiful. It's our go-to place when we're in Staunton and the greater valley.

We only got to stay one night at Frederick House, and I wish it had been longer. We were three people, and the room was clean and comfortable. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful, and breakfast was delicious. The location is perfect for walking around downtown Staunton, especially since the Virginia Scenic Railway was our main destination and was nearby. The whole place feels super cozy.

We came across this hotel in Lonely Planet and spent one night in room 26. The four-poster bed was comfortable, and we slept really well. The room was clean, quaint, and full of character. Breakfast was another high point: the waffles were fantastic, with locally sourced ingredients, and the portion was substantial. Service was professional, and we felt well looked after. Our hosts also had plenty of useful suggestions for things to do nearby. A brilliant stay.

The owner and staff are super friendly and go out of their way to make your visit enjoyable. Breakfast is made to order from a unique, tasty menu, and you're just a block from the town's main street, so everything is a short walk away. The rooms are well furnished with period pieces in this historic accommodation, and the place makes you feel at home. You won't regret staying here.
