Comfort Suites Stuart - Hutchinson Island

The suite was roomy, and the front desk staff were very helpful. The hotel is nice but basic. I appreciated that the small workout area stays open 24 hours, even though it’s quite cramped. Breakfast had only a few choices. I booked a suite for seven days, assuming it had a small kitchen, but I should have checked because there wasn’t one. The half-size fridge froze everything even on the lowest setting. Housekeeping said they’d contact someone, but nothing came of it, so we managed by switching it off and on until we got the hang of it. Free Wi-Fi also required entering my name and room number every time, with no way around that unless you paid extra. The bathroom outlets looked upside down, and the hair dryer plug was strained and shorted. All the outlets seemed to be mounted that way. The front desk quickly replaced the faulty dryer.

I ended up staying after rebooking, but I’m still unhappy and won’t recommend this hotel. My wife had a medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital, so I called the hotel to ask if my reservation could be moved by a week. I’d booked two weeks earlier through the Southwest app, which I’d never used before and won’t use again. The hotel said I had to go through Southwest, but Southwest said it didn’t handle hotel bookings and sent me to a third party. That third party said its policy didn’t allow a date change. After a lot of discussion, they asked for proof of my wife’s hospital stay. I sent her Care and AfterCare statements from her doctors, and they said they’d review them. I made clear I wasn’t asking for a refund, only different dates. They eventually refused the date change and said they’d ask the hotel about a refund instead. I called the hotel manager right away to explain that all I wanted was new dates, which I thought he’d understand given the medical emergency. After more discussion and resistance, he said the decision was up to the third party. Then the third party told me the hotel had denied “their” request. I was furious that the hotel would keep my $700 when I hadn’t stayed there. I strongly suggest reconsidering this policy. It’s bad for business.

The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and a nice lounging area. It looked new, was well maintained, and stayed quiet. We enjoyed the fresh morning coffee and good breakfast selection. We were happy with all aspects of our two-night stay, and the location was great. We’d stay again if we’re in the area.

The rooms were spacious and clean, and we barely heard the neighbors. For the price, it’s a pretty good option if you want somewhere nicer for the neighborhood. I wouldn’t recommend breakfast unless you’re desperate for sugary, heavily processed food. The coffee was strong one day and weak the next.
