Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Lake Charles Sulphur

The staff were attentive and did a great job, even while training someone new. The location was good, and the room price was very reasonable compared with other places nearby. I appreciated getting an upgrade, and they're supposed to credit me back for some things. I was pleased with the staff, really. The room had a strong moldy smell. Maybe that's common around Lake Charles, I don't know. The bed was lumpy, the pillows seemed very old, the floor creaked, and there was moisture on the windows. I didn't ask to switch rooms because I was tired, and I'm not sure another room would've been any different.

I only stayed one night, and the room was so dirty I didn't even want to go down for breakfast. The fridge still had food from the previous guest, the towels and bedding were dirty, and the tub was rusty. Someone had painted the tub white, apparently to cover what was underneath, and the paint got on the bottoms of our feet. The staff were very nice, but the place is clearly poorly managed and not being cleaned properly. One of the worst Marriott's I've encountered.

On 3/6/26 we had to move rooms because the first bed sheets hadn't been changed. There were hairs and what looked like cut fingernails or toenails in the bedding. The night desk person apologized, but the replacement room also had dirty sheets. I wouldn't recommend staying here. This has come up often in earlier reviews too.

The bathroom ceiling looked ready to fall apart, so I spent the whole shower wondering if it would come down. The ironing board had stains I didn't want to identify, and rust too. The AC rattled and clanged all night, like a washing machine breaking down, instead of cooling quietly. And the room smelled damp and musty, with a lingering wet-sock sort of odor. This was like sleeping in a soggy cardboard box behind a closed Waffle House. A stay here builds character and makes you appreciate pretty much anywhere else. I'd sooner sleep in my car in a thunderstorm than come back. One star because I survived.
