Quality Inn Sulphur - Lake Charles

We were in town for a family function, and the stay went smoothly. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff was helpful, and the location was convenient. A real hidden gem. I’d happily come back.

The breakfast was a mess. It included bananas, Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran and yogurt, but the milk for the cereal didn’t seem fresh, as if the container had just been topped off again. The apple juice tasted like yellow water, and the waffle batter seemed watered down and old. The waffle maker couldn’t cook them through. Another guest had warned us, and even after I left mine in longer, it was still underdone. Hotel staff walked past after being told, but didn’t check the machine or batter. Our room was hot and smelled bad when we arrived. The sheets and towels were stained, and there were odd wet patches on the floor. The showers were lukewarm, too. If you stop here on a trip, expect the same room conditions and watered down breakfast. They should call it “it’ll do inn,” not Quality Inn.

Breakfast was barely worth calling continental: just two tables, a waffle maker, cereal and a little fruit. I expected more of the usual complimentary spread. People who weren’t hotel guests or employees were sitting in the breakfast area and parked beneath the entrance pavilion, which made me question their character. The room itself was good. The pillows were plush, though square, and the shower had decent pressure with the head above my height. The air conditioner was noisy, and there were no premium TV channels.

The receptionist was incredibly sweet and helped make check-in go smoothly. I can’t remember her name properly, but she made me feel at home, and the rest of the staff were friendly too. The place was super clean and cozy, with a real homey feel. I’d recommend it if you want somewhere clean and comfortable at a fair price.
