Hampton Inn Sumter

The employees I met were pleasant, which was a bright spot. Still, I wish someone had mentioned the renovations when I booked, because I probably would have stayed elsewhere until they were finished. My room had paint drips on the toilet seat, dried caulk on the tissue holder, and trash from the previous guest in a cabinet. The lobby was a mess from the work, and the fitness area was closed.

Austin was the reason this worked out for us. Our other hotel booking fell through, and after several places couldn't help, I called this location. He answered and quickly arranged two rooms with no notice, handling everything very professionally. Awesome Austin reminded me why I'm an honors member.

After several stays, this property has gotten worse each time, and it's among the five worst hotels I've been in. I travel for work and usually stay at Hilton properties about once a month. During this four-day visit, nobody serviced my room. Renovations seemed to be underway, but there was no notice before I arrived or at check-in, and tools were left around daily, from a caulk gun and measuring tape to a hard hat on a table. The snack area was empty, the gym was out of service, and breakfast ended at 9:00, while most Hamptons run until 9:30. Staff were sometimes unpleasant and generally not very friendly. I'll stay at the Tru next time I'm in Sumter.

I appreciated the water station for filling bottles, but the gym was unavailable because the building was being renovated, which I hadn't been told about. I also had to kill a cockroach in my room.
