Blue Ridge Inn

We come back here whenever we're in the area. The desk clerk who checked us in was from my hometown, small world, and made us feel welcome. When our TV gave us trouble, she came up, called the owner, and his sons brought a replacement. They were friendly and helped us figure out the remotes. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and the showers have strong pressure and plenty of hot water. I like sitting in the rocking chairs with the mountain view. We walked to the local pizza place for food and music. Highly recommend it.

The staff were helpful and always ready with information, and I felt fine leaving my car overnight with the police station right across the street. Each time I headed out, I took a look at the amazing Old Jackson Court House. I picked this motel after weighing the location, price, and reviews for a visit with my cousin, who lives on a mountain. Check-in was easy, and my first-floor room was clean and very nice. For a longer stay, there's an iron and board, a hair dryer, and internet for a laptop. It's beside a shopping area that reminded me of Old Milford in Milford, OH, with lots of places to eat, though some require a drive. I'd stay here again. I gave it four stars because it doesn't have extras like a pool, sauna, or exercise room, which I didn't need anyway, and it's still about as close to five stars as you can get.

We ended up leaving at 11 pm and driving home, and when we asked for a refund they refused. We were put in a room beside the lobby, maybe rm 123?, with a door straight into it. Strong spiced-food smells came through, along with a lot of noise. The room was clean but shabby, and the bed sloped so badly that, if we'd stayed, we would've had to sleep with our heads at the foot to avoid being downhill. It faces Main Street and the parking lot, so with the shades open there's no privacy from people walking by or traffic. That part alone wasn't a deal breaker, but people should know. The update from the hotel doesn't match what happened: we didn't request that room, weren't warned, and weren't offered a chance to switch at check-in. They only mentioned we might hear the waffle maker beep in the morning. If we'd been offered another room, we would've taken it. Usually I only post when I have good things to say, but wanted others to know what happened before booking. If you stay, maybe check the bed first and ask for a room at the quieter back of the building.

It was worth the price for one night, and check-in and check-out were quick. The location was great, so I'd stay again despite the room issues. The towels were thin and small, and the topper felt crunchy while the sheets weren't soft. I wasn't expecting much. I do wish they'd discounted the rate since breakfast wasn't being offered at the time because of covid. They had dehumidifiers in the rooms, but the carpet felt wet, and walking on the tile left wet footprints.
