Extended Stay America Tacoma South

We chose this place for its location and convenience, even though the start was rough: the rooms were dirty and some staff were rude. Eventually we found a room we really like, and the stay has gotten better over time. They’re remodeling, and the hotel feels like it’s improving. We’re grateful to have somewhere to stay while we secure our next home. I just hope the elevators get fixed soon. Thanks, Extended Stay!

We stayed from early December 2025 through the first week of February for medical reasons near the children’s hospital, and I still miss this place after being moved to a hotel farther away. I always felt comfortable and secure. The staff were on top of any problems, and I never met a rude worker. They worked hard to keep the property clean, despite some guests making that difficult by throwing garbage from their cars or tossing trash in the stairwells. The parking lot was cleaned daily. I’ve noticed the smells others complain about too, and didn’t like them, but every room has a kitchen, so cooking on a whole floor can create a mix of odors. In return, you can cook in your room. Breakfast is now a muffin, oatmeal, or cereal bar, with coffee and cocoa. I sometimes wished there were coffee in the evening, but we made it in our room. I loved that pets are welcome and seeing them treated like family.

The location is very convenient, and the front desk staff were very nice and helpful. Our house flooded, and our insurance company placed us here. After work on my first night, I showered, then noticed two hours later that the bottoms of my feet were black. It looked like the rooms weren’t cleaned regularly. There were crumbs all over under the movable TV. It seemed like they changed the sheets, swept, wiped surfaces, and focused on the toilet before moving on, but the floor looked like it hadn’t been mopped for at least a month. My girlfriend and I cleaned the room ourselves. After a couple of days, I noticed sketchy people around and inside the hotel. I checked the Google reviews, and what I read was enough for us to leave the next day. I don’t usually post bad reviews, but people should know what to expect. I’m not attacking Extended Stay, but management needs to look closely at what’s going on and make this hotel worth staying in. This is my honest review, and I’d recommend going somewhere else.

The rooms have a full-size fridge, two-burner cooktop, microwave, and a good-sized sink, plus pans, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, tumblers, and silverware, all good quality. The bathroom has enough counter space and a full-size tub. The beds and pillows are really comfortable. The single blanket was lightweight, but it kept us warm in winter even with the heat off and the window open a couple of inches for fresh air. You can bring a dog too, though I’m not sure how many dogs are allowed.
