Meandering Moose Lodging

Stacy, the owner, was friendly and helpful, knew a lot about the area, and we had some great conversations. The Uppity Moose room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. There was plenty of hot water, plus extra fans in case the weather got warmer. A friend and I stayed one night while on vacation, and we'd definitely return.

We were disappointed because important details weren't clear in the listing. Our cabin had no bathroom, although the various booking sites made it look as if the cabins had bathrooms inside. The host said it was a 30-second walk away. It wasn't far, but going out there in the middle of the night wasn't fun for us; we're not the kind of campers who'd be comfortable with that. Some people might not mind. The WiFi was also described as free, but our cabin had no connection. We had to go to one of two main areas to get online, which was inconvenient since I work while traveling. If the listing had explained these things clearly, we would have booked somewhere else. Other guests may be very happy here, but it wasn't right for us.

The room at Meander Moose Lodge was really spacious, and the lodge itself was beautiful. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. Stacey was a great host, and we loved staying here. We can't recommend it enough and can't wait to return to Talkeetna.

The beds were rock hard, and I don't understand why more reviews haven't mentioned it. My back hurt so much that I slept on the little loveseat with my legs hanging off. A couple of mattress pads would have made a big difference. Even so, the suite was cute, very clean, and decorated in rustic Alaskan style. I loved the large room, though $250 a night is steep. The shared kitchen and sitting area were also great. We stayed in the Uppity Moose lodge with our kids, who were excited to come. The place is adorable, quiet, well maintained, and about seven minutes from downtown Talkeetna. But Booking.com didn't make the occupancy details clear: although the large suite could have fit us and our four kids, the owners insisted only four people could stay. We had no option except to drive two hours home to drop off our two oldest, then drive back. The kids were so sad, and I felt awful. If we'd been from out of state, we'd have been stuck. We tried to make the best of it, but between that and the beds, it was a tough stay. We wish the owners well.
