Sun And Moon Hostel

It was my first hostel, and while it isn't my usual preference, it's worth trying at least once. The room and bathroom were very clean, with plenty of shampoo and conditioner, and the house rules were sensible and followed. It felt safe, there are lots of food options nearby, and tents are available outside alongside many bunk beds in several rooms. Parking is limited, though. The living room common area needs more cleaning: I saw cobwebs and what looked like dog hair on the furniture. The owner is pretty awesome and doing a great job, but the place needs quality maintenance inside and out.

I'm a light sleeper, and the screaming baby in the next room was impossible to tune out. The walls are really thin and don't reach the ceiling. I tried my blackout mask and wrapped a towel around my ears, but I still left by 11 pm. I may just have been unlucky, since it would've been better without the baby. The staff were kind, the price was super low, and it seemed like a small, nice, calm place when I arrived. A hostel means lots of people sharing a small space, though, so this seems like a better deal for deep sleepers.

I left two days early after a pretty bad stay. The person who greeted me seemed cold and confused I was there, then warmly told a family arriving for a private room that they were the most important guests that night while I sat in the common area. The common space was a bit dirty, with cockroaches on the kitchen counters and a rat running around. The room was what I'd expect for a hostel, though most people seemed to be staying for weeks or months rather than short-term. When I told the managers I was checking out early, they didn't answer my calls or texts, and their voicemail was full. Service from management was poor. The location is okay if you're going to FSU, but watch out crossing nearby intersections: drivers don't seem to look for pedestrians. I nearly got hit by someone turning right while I was crossing at a light.

I'm glad Tallahassee has a hostel like this. It's a great space with a good price, outdoor areas, and a common room stocked with a nice selection of board games. The kitchen has the basics and the Wi-Fi works great. It's a hostel, so don't expect luxury. There's only one shared bathroom, and it could use some upgrades.
