Comfort Suites Tampa - Brandon

The breakfast was good, with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, bread, waffles, oatmeal, and fruit. The bathroom and bed linens were clean, too. But the mattress was very uncomfortable, with the springs easy to feel, and the stained sofa in the room looked disgusting, with orange marks that seemed like mold. I’d rather have had an empty space there. We only needed a place for one night before leaving, and thankfully that was all we booked. If that’s all you need, this might do, but I’m definitely not coming back.

I was told about the remodeling only after I arrived, and I wish I’d known ahead of time. The night shift staff were friendly, but the two men at the front desk during the day didn’t say a word when I returned my key to check out. At 10 a.m., someone tried to enter my room without knocking, even though checkout wasn’t until 11. The door latch was on, luckily. Then a woman came back banging on the door and calling housekeeping. I told her we knew the checkout time. I’ll never return to this hotel, motel, whatever it is.

The prices are good, but the rooms are infested with roaches and barely cleaned. The woman, possibly the owner, was discriminatory. After I gave the wrong room number, she forced me to leave, there was a whole commotion, and police got involved. I finally just settled for a refund. Look past the first five-star reviews and read more of them if you want to see what it’s like. In common Florida hot-weather clothes, you’ll automatically be assumed to be homeless. Otherwise, the treatment seems to depend on race.

The pool, exercise room, and breakfast area were nice, and breakfast was free and hot. The room was fairly spacious, the beds were spotless, check-in was quick, and the price was decent. The location in the middle of Brandon, Florida, on Route 60 made it convenient for getting to everything Tampa offers. There were just two things we questioned: the room had an odor that was pretty bad when we came back from an outing if the fan was set to auto, though running it constantly helped. The Wi-Fi also kept cutting out.
