Hampton Inn Taos

Last year my family took a small road trip from Denver, Co. I learned my bloodline came from the natives in Taos from the Puebloans, and I’m trying to reconnect. We booked a Mountain View room the night before and drove to the hotel the next day. The front desk woman had been kind, polite, and helpful when we booked, but when we arrived she was short and much less friendly. Our room was GROSS, facing the pool. The hotel lacks modern features and the room wasn’t well maintained. We paid extra for a Mountain View but got a foggy window looking onto a not-so-fancy pool. The pool was eww, and we were very skeptical about putting our faces under. Breakfast the next morning was a disaster. The staff warmed pace picante SALSA and served the bare minimum of appropriate food. Construction workers were eating at the breakfast tables before work, and I was extremely upset about what was being served. The lack of respect for guests and the culture was a shock. Because of this hotel, my family won’t stay in small towns anymore. We’ll find activities where diversity is celebrated instead of treated like a chore or frowned on. I refuse to stay in small towns because small minds will never change. This was a HORRIBLE experience.

The staff were professional and genuinely friendly the whole time, and my request for a 2:00 pm late checkout was granted without any back-and-forth. We stayed four nights, and the room was clean and perfectly adequate for two, with a king-size bed, pull-out sofa, large TV, small fridge, and proper desk. The air from the AC/heater wasn’t overly dry, and the water wasn’t harsh or drying either, which was a pleasant surprise since many hotels get both wrong. The main limitation was no kitchenette for cooking, but that doesn’t take away from the excellent service. There was some traffic noise and hallway noise from other guests. It was the holiday period, so that’s hard to fault the hotel for. A solid stay, 8.5/10.

The staff were nice, at least, but the hotel itself was a dump. My sheets were dirty and the bathroom was kind of dirty too. I swear I could hear every single movement from every room all night. Just gross.

It was a great, quiet place. Maintenance and Front Desk fixed an issue in good time, and I want to thank them. Special thanks to David in Maintenance, who was really friendly and professional in how he handled my problem.
