Gateway Park Hotel and Suites

The room itself was clean, nice, and quiet, and most of the staff were pleasant. But after a phone booking on Sunday, I arrived Monday and asked about paying at checkout on Friday. I was told that was fine, despite the hotel's policy of taking payment at check-in. No one explained that policy before I booked, and I would have picked another place if they had. Early Thursday, my room access was cut off. At the desk, I was told payment was due upfront and that there was no note on my account. The man there said, “that’s not how we do things here,” which contradicted what I'd been told at check-in, and gave me a dirty look that made me deeply uncomfortable. I was in town for work, 180 miles from home, and felt like they might kick me out, so I paid with a different method than the one on file. After work that night, my keycard was deactivated again while all my belongings were still in the room. It seemed they intended to keep me from my things three nights into a four-night stay if I hadn't paid, even though I'd paid before coming back for the night. They reactivated the card without a problem, and I stayed the last night. It may have been a one-off mix-up between staff, but clear payment information before booking would have prevented it. I won't stay here again.
