Sonesta Simply Suites Phoenix Tempe

A staff member sexually propositioned me. Babies and toddlers were allowed in the hot tub even when it wasn’t safe, and staff told me outright that they normally clean the pool and hot tub only once a MONTH. I pleaded with them to clean the water, but they failed to post a proper notice that it had just been treated. That led to a chemical burn or reaction that I’m still dealing with. Management has yet to contact me.

The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, and very clean. The gym is a decent size, and the laundry room next door is always clean with plenty of washers and dryers. There’s a coffee machine serving decent coffee around the clock. The mall is walkable, as are Home Depo and Circle K. There are also several restaurants in either direction on Baseline. A great option for a short visit or a longer stay. Highly recommended.

The only good things about this place were Theresa, Noelle, and Victor. They were the positive part of my experience, and that’s why I rated the service as high as I did. I hope the place gets better management soon, because the two people in charge now will drive away more guests than they attract. The management team, Tanya, the short woman with glasses and brown hair, and Hector, the short little man who’s always right behind her, are incredibly rude and inconsiderate. They shouldn’t be working in hospitality. If you tell them something in the room needs fixing, they’ll blame you. There are roaches in the rooms, and when I reported them, management did nothing for almost 5 weeks. Then they told me I had to move rooms that day and rushed me.

This is a cheap extended-stay place, so I expected some rough edges. The bigger issue is the area, more than the suites. During my 5 day stay, there was a gang-related drive-by murder on the street outside. I also saw a guy on the first floor break a screen so his “girl” could pass groceries inside. I checked the room with a black light and rated its cleanliness 40/100, which was about what I expected. The main issue is that it’s a bad area. If you can afford to stay somewhere else, do that.
