TRU by Hilton Terrell

I’m grateful to Tru by Hilton-Terrell for accommodating a walk-in booking with no reservation or advance notice. I arranged this two-night stay for an acquaintance, not for myself, and the hotel is pet-friendly. Diana and Natalie at the front desk were courteous and well-trained, and general manager Jill showed good work ethic and oversight. The experience matched the reputation and expectations I have of Hilton Hotels in general. Thank you, Tru by Hilton in Terrell, TX!

Buc-ee's and lots of fast food are close by, and there’s a small weight room and a nice pool at the hotel. We had a good stay for a Canton weekend. The staff were nice, and the basic rooms were clean. Breakfast was hot and included pancakes made by an automatic machine.

My only snag was getting through the doors around the outdoor pool. The gate wouldn’t take my key card, so a guest leaving let me in and said the lock was broken. When I came back inside, my card also failed at the hotel entrance, and I had to walk around to the front. I let the desk clerk know, and she acknowledged it. I suggested putting up a sign until the lock is fixed. It’s a small issue in an otherwise excellent stay, and I assume it’s temporary. The pool itself was nice and seemed to be maintained regularly. The room was in great shape with the usual comforts, and the bed was one of the nicest I’ve had in a hotel. The free breakfast was excellent too: hot and cold cereal, toast, scrambled eggs, pancakes, fruit, juice, and coffee, with the hot food hot and the cold food cold. I’ve stayed at Tru hotels a couple of times and both visits were very good. The facility was clean and well-managed, and the desk clerk was friendly, attentive, and answered my questions. He even gave me information about my stay before I asked.

Other guests slamming doors at 1am and letting kids run in the hall were our only complaint, and that wasn’t the hotel’s fault. We stayed twice, two weeks apart. Both rooms were small, clean, and modern, and breakfast was good. The price was very reasonable: our first visit was $116 for two queen beds, and the second was $120 for a king. The hotel allows pets for a small fee, with no fee for service dogs, and there’s lots of nice, clean grass for pups.
