The fall setting was lovely, with changing leaves, quiet scenery, and plenty of warm fireplaces where we could catch up. We also enjoyed the lake views and window shopping, and the meals at The Terrace and Brentwood were fantastic. Breakfast arrived in our room in a charming picnic basket, a cozy, homemade-feeling touch. We came for a girls’ weekend of spa time, fine dining, and rest. There was a small scheduling mix-up with the spa, but Harbour Grand Hotel handled it thoughtfully and showed real hospitality. It’s one of the few hotels I’d gladly return to. Thanks for making the trip so special!

The breakfast basket is a great idea, and it was included. They even left a little card about the confusing time change. I also liked the soaking tub and fireplace available in some rooms, and the cozy view. The inn has a boutique feel, and I learned after arriving that it was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. It’s hard to argue with that. Amtrak is only a short walk away, which made getting to Chicago easy. A few things could be better: the WiFi seemed slow, the TV was clunky to use, and dust built up quickly in Room 200. Maybe that was the fireplace or a dirty air filter, but I’m not sure. One odd idea: last-minute “storm rates” for when a big storm is due would suit this place, since it seems like a cozy spot to ride one out.

The front desk and food service crews were top notch, but little details took away a few stars. Breakfast was average at best, and the quiche and muffins were below average. My regular room had a tub and fireplace, but no microwave to go with the fridge, which didn't work for my needs. I also wouldn't expect a resort hotel to be missing an alarm clock and sound machine. The TV had more channels than many hotels, but no sleep timer, which was disappointing. Being right on the water with a pool and hot tub means crowds in season. In the quieter times, it’s the small details that matter most.

The breakfast basket was such a cute, personal touch. They brought it to our room each morning at the time we chose, and we could take it to the terrace or beach. I haven't had that at another hotel. The room was spacious, with a relaxed spa feel as soon as we walked in, and it was close to both amenities and the beach. The hotel and spa are beautiful, the location is fantastic, and the attention to detail was spectacular. Parking was convenient, and Breanna at the front desk was kind and informative from the start. Loved our stay, and we'll definitely be back!

The Terrace Room restaurant had delicious food at fair prices, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. It was a great stay. I'd definitely come back.
