I’ve always chosen Holiday Inn Express when I stay with IHG, so this visit shocked me. We arrived after midnight and got little warmth from the front desk. When I asked about a room and then whether I could use IHG points, I was told I’d have to book online and pay a $25 deposit. In the past, staff had helped me get the best experience for my money, and I felt my elite status mattered. It didn’t feel that way here. The toilet in our room wouldn’t flush without a struggle, and the shower pressure was poor with only lukewarm water. I contacted IHG, and the concierge said there was nothing he could do about the points. He did call the front desk at 2am about the toilet, but I said not to bother because we’d be leaving in a few hours. The desk called twice anyway, but we were asleep. In the morning we were exhausted and still had to deal with a running toilet and the shower. Then my fiancée pulled back the curtain and found a silverfish just sitting there. I hate bugs and spent the day worrying I’d be itching. At the desk, the staff member seemed aloof. I said we weren’t paying for the room. He spoke with the manager, then returned after seeing my photo of the silverfish and said the room was comped and 2,000 points would be added to my IHG account. We still ate breakfast, since these things don’t bother my hard-working, blue-collar fiancée, and I figured I’d embarrassed him enough. The food was cold. I finished my coffee quietly and went on with the day. In response to the manager’s comment: what could the front desk have done after midnight? We’d traveled over 500 miles and were tired and exhausted. Blaming previous owners is easy. Yes, the room was comped and points were offered, but that doesn’t make up for the huge inconvenience. Don’t open if IHG standards aren’t met. You can’t improve without feedback.
Erica and her staff made the stay smooth and comfortable from the start. They were warm, attentive, and clearly cared about making me feel welcome. My suite was cozy, clean, and ready for me, with snacks and a few thoughtful extras that gave it a home-away-from-home feel. I really appreciated that attention to detail. Thanks to Erica and the team. I’ll be back.
We were disappointed. The room had a strange smell and worn-in beds, and you could hear people walking overhead. All the accommodations were closed, but we were still charged full price. Breakfast was a concern too: check the milk dates, since many cartons were expired, and the eggs tasted weird. No half-and-half, though the bacon was excellent. Service wasn’t good. The receptionist could have been friendlier, and at checkout the clerk didn’t say good morning or ask about our stay. He just held out his hand for the keys without talking or looking me in the face. He definitely didn’t seem to want to be there.
The room was decent enough, and I did get the large room I booked online. The front desk clerk was very friendly. That was the good part of our Thanksgiving trip to see family. We were on the second floor and took the stairs. The stairways looked like they hadn’t been cleaned, and the main hallway was worse. The carpet, which used to be nice, looked as if bleach had dripped all over it and nobody had cleaned it in ages. Do they even have a vacuum? Then came bedtime. The beds were the worst I’ve tried in a hotel, worse than the sketchy places I’ve stayed as a fisherman and hunter. I could feel the springs right through the mattresses, like there was no padding. This property doesn’t feel up to IHG quality. Go somewhere else until they clean it up and make it comfortable.
The hotel’s a bit dated, but I enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back. The room was very clean, and the breakfast was amazing. I think the breakfast attendant’s name was Merlin, and she was absolutely great.
