Super 8 Topeka/Wanamaker RD/I-70

It was a quiet, large, basic room for a good rate, and pets are allowed for a small fee compared with other places. The mattress was too firm for me and the pillows were small. The toilet backed up after one use, and one bulb was missing from the floor lamp. Even with those issues, I’d recommend it and stay again.

The location made getting to restaurants, shops, and highways easy, and the price felt like good value. My room was comfortable, clean, and well kept, and housekeeping did a nice job keeping things tidy. Staff were friendly and helpful from check-in through checkout. Breakfast was included and had a good variety. It also felt safe and welcoming. I’d happily return to Super 8 Motel.

There was snack trash under the chair I used as a bedside table, and cigarette ash all over the floor. The room was the dirtiest place I’ve ever slept. I saw bed bugs and woke up with rashes. I even considered sleeping in my car, but it was too late, and now wish I had. The negative reviews are real. I can’t understand how this hotel is still open, and I’m stunned anyone could give it more than one star. It seems to me that the five-star reviews might be from the owners’ friends and family.

The smoking room smelled fine, but it was badly run down. The bathroom tile stopped at least two inches short of the tub, and the sink looked like it had been torn off the wall and put back. The ground floor window wouldn’t lock, and I had to slam the door to shut it. This felt like a crack motel.
