DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance - South Bay

We used to have five-star stays here and thought highly of the service, but this room on the 2nd floor was a different story. We heard a loud mechanical roar as soon as we left the elevator. Our room was beside the machine room, and the engine ran constantly, day and night, so we couldn't rest. The hotel was fully booked, and when we complained, the front desk said they couldn't promise to move us. A room this noisy shouldn't be sold. We won't risk another stay like this and will look at other hotels next time. Avoid the 2nd floor.

Jess, who said Jessica was her full name, was great at the front desk, friendly and informative. The lobby is beautiful, and our room was nice, though its furniture looked a little dated. I also had a pleasant visit to the bar one night, even though I can't recall the server's name. The drinks and restaurant food were good, but expensive. Making the drinks took quite a while despite the place not being busy. Restaurant service was less impressive at lunch one day and breakfast on two others. We weren't offered water or coffee refills, though the server did make sure to bring the bill. The breakfast buffet was $30 per person, and parking costs extra if you have a vehicle. In the bathroom, the sink water got hot but the shower never got warm enough. I told someone at the desk, who said maintenance would come, but the temperature didn't change for the rest of our stay. Those issues weren't deal breakers, and I visit California often. I'd stay again if the price were right.

I've been coming and going from this hotel for a year. It's in a great location, very clean, and the staff are both friendly and professional. Rico deserves a special mention for always going above and beyond to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. I highly recommend the place.

I thought I'd left my sentimental plush in the room, and the panic when I couldn't find it was real. I contacted the hotel right away. They replied quickly and followed through, assuring me they'd search thoroughly if needed. The team really went out of its way to help. Luckily, my 'buddy' turned up because I'd forgotten where it was. I'm so grateful to Mr Mark Athan and the team for caring so much. The people are what make a stay better.
