Bayshore Resort

Our room was cozy and clean, with a balcony looking out over the bay and lots of ducks. We visited in January, so the beach wasn't usable for us, but I'd love to return in summer. The hotel is along the main road, close to plenty of restaurants and shops, and Bayshore Resort cost quite a bit less than other nearby hotels. The pool area is gorgeous, right inside the entrance with glass windows all around and a big fireplace in the lobby. There were lots of tables and chairs for watching the kids swim, plus a good-sized hot tub. Downstairs there's a small game room with claw machines and arcade games.

Fantastic staff and a really clean hotel and room. They offered rides downtown, too. A perfect winter getaway, with plenty to do nearby even out of season.

I've been coming to Traverse City for a long time and had always noticed this place, but never stayed before. My wife wanted a Jacuzzi room, so I booked one for us. We were amazed by the hotel and the staff. Special thanks to Jonathan, who upgraded us to a Jacuzzi suite and made our special day even more special.

My family of four and our small dog were stranded in Traverse City, miles from home, until Monday morning. The website said the dog wasn't allowed, so we arranged for a family friend to take her to their house to spend the night with their cats. My husband and I came in to pay for the room. A woman at the desk reluctantly came over and said we had no reservation. My husband pulled up his confirmation, and she noticed it was through EXPEDIA. We agreed, and she did the paperwork and had him sign. I wrote down the make and model and started reading the rest of what she'd handed me, but she quickly took it back, saying what I'd written was enough. Odd. After giving us the keys, she said nothing beyond that. We were tired from the drive and just wanted to settle in. We took our four bags, a pillow, blankets, and our two kids to the room on the same level as the desk. We were there about five minutes, just long enough to look at the room and balcony view, then headed back to the car. I was on the phone with my mom, explaining what care our little dog needed at the family friend's house. I had an AirPod in and didn't hear the woman call after me as I passed, but my kids did. They tapped me. My husband took them to the car, and I went back to ask what she needed. I barely got two words out before she angrily asked if I had a dog in my car. Confused about why she was asking, I thought maybe she was worried I'd bring the dog inside. I said, “Yes, I am going...” She snapped, “Don't look at me up and down, I asked you a question!” I froze and started shaking. I said, “Excuse you, where do you get off...” Then, out of nowhere, she said I had to leave if I had a small dog in my car. I asked if she was joking. She smirked and hurried behind the counter, where another guy was waiting in the background and not helping. She yelled that I wasn't going to leave and that she was calling the cops. I ran to get my husband and told him to grab everything because we weren't staying with this “crazy lady.” I cleared our things out of the room in about a minute. As I left, she made a big deal of it, mocking me for leaving my dog in the car for hours and claiming I left my kids there with her. I had no idea Bayshore would take payment, harass customers, and yell that the cops were on their side. The whole thing took less than ten minutes, and I never got a chance to explain. I have a pretty severe condition that means I need a pet around me at all times. I don't want to share all the personal details, but if she'd stayed calm, I would have explained that I was already handling the situation and didn't need her help with my dog. She never saw the dog or even asked about it. Instead, she kept ranting about me being a bad mother and laughing from behind the counter, holding her phone to her ear in the clear-view office while some guy paced and said nothing. I was shaking, angry, and hurt. I told my mother we'd find another hotel in another town and wouldn't bring my dog out. I'll never stay here or recommend it, and I'll share this review whenever I get the chance.
