Hampton Inn by Hilton Troy

We enjoyed staying at this Hampton Inn and Suites in Troy, Alabama for the first time. The room was clean, with very comfortable beds, and the bathroom was spotless too. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, with a nice selection of hot foods and juices.

We booked this hotel for an unexpected trip to Troy after a death in the family. It was quiet, we felt safe, the location was great, breakfast was okay, the front desk staff were fine, and housekeeping was very nice and friendly. But we ran into several problems. My husband told the front desk that the pullout couch had a stain on it. They apologized and gave him a mattress cover and sheet, but the cover was twin size for a full-size bed. There was no fitted sheet, and the flat sheet had a greasy-looking stain that hadn't come out. The pullout mattress was uncomfortable, so we bought an egg-crate foam topper at Walmart, but it didn't help. My husband and I slept on it the first night and said never again. Our youngest daughter used it the second and third nights. The queen bed mattresses were no better. My body hurt so much that the floor might have been more comfortable, and I had to use my massage chair when I got home. The shower was barely above lukewarm. The front desk told my husband the water was kept that way so nobody would get burned. My daughter also found black stains on a washcloth. When he got home, my husband noticed a $4.68 parking charge for our three nights. We hadn't been told about it beforehand or at checkout. We're not high-maintenance, but we do want a hot shower and clean cloths and sheets.

The location was great, and the breakfast was fantastic on both mornings. The price was also better than nearby hotels, which is the only reason I'd recommend staying here, since breakfast was included. If you can stretch your budget a little, definitely stay at the courtyard next door. Checking in was a problem because the evening staff seemed not to care whether guests existed. After 11am, I could never find anyone at the front desk. They say checkout is at noon, but the key cards stop working well before then, so be aware if you're on your own. The room had dated furniture, though it did have a TV, fridge, and coffee maker. There weren't any cups in the room, so I guess you have to ask the staff you can't find. The bed was the most uncomfortable I've had in a hotel, and I've slept on better motel beds. The pillows were awful, and I wish I'd brought my own. Nearly every metal surface, including the bathroom trash can, had rust spots. It wasn't really concerning, just odd. The water also felt slimy, especially in the shower. Edit: The response said, “Please contact me directly at the email or phone number below if there is anything we can do for you. We hope to welcome you back soon.” But I couldn't see any contact information in the response 🤷🏻

We were tired travelers trying to beat the storm, so getting a room just off the highway was a relief. The only issue was that we couldn't figure out how to turn on the shower. Joyce did a great job with the breakfast buffet, keeping it stocked. The food that was meant to be hot was hot without being dried out. We've seen overcooked, poorly stocked breakfasts at Holiday Inn hotels around the country, and this one was nothing like that. There were plenty of outlets for our electronics too. We'll stay here again.
