I’m a Gold Choice member and booked online for a business trip with my crew. The place looked like a dump, and both rooms had a foul odor; one mattress had a blood stain. They said the property had been renovated, which seems true for some rooms. Management told me I had to be a Gold member to rent those rooms, then said certain people were allowed to use the renovated rooms because they would mess them up. My crew is entirely Hispanic, and that was who I was traveling with. You can imagine how that explanation came across.

I booked through a reservation service. The rate was inexpensive, and there was no deposit or charge for my service dog. I was told I should have requested a fridge and microwave if I wanted them, since those rooms cost more. After seeing the room, I wouldn’t have wanted anything there to cook, heat, or cool food anyway. It was filthy: my socks turned black from the carpet, which looked like it had never been cleaned. I didn’t want to sleep in the bedding, so I brought my own and stayed on top of the bedspread without lifting it. The sink and bathroom vent were clogged with dirt and lint. Broken outlets nearly shocked me when I tried to plug in my phone in the dark. A homeless man was in the corridors at 2 a.m. asking to use my phone while I was packing to leave. Thank goodness my service dog kept him from getting close. I took a few pictures. I rate this place minus 00. I’ll never stay again, and I wouldn’t bring children here.

The room was dirty and dated, with old, dingy furniture, carpet, and bed. There was a strong smell throughout, like rotting meat, and I felt sick as soon as I walked in. It was a smoking room, but the odor wasn’t smoke. The TV was an old box set with a fuzzy picture on every channel, and there was no microwave or fridge. I’ve stayed at other Econo Lodges, and none came close to being this unpleasant. I know you get what you pay for, and I’m usually not fussy, but I expected a much cleaner, nicer place for the $70 I paid. I booked online expecting the quoted rate, then the woman at the desk charged me another $10. I strongly recommend not booking here. You’ll regret it.

For $50, I thought this motel was worth it. The rooms and beds were clean, and there was Wi-Fi, cable TV, and continental breakfast. The pictures online show deluxe rooms, which cost more than the standard ones, something some reviewers don’t seem to understand. You’re paying about half what you would at Comfort Inn, so don’t expect a resort with a spa massage and a chef-made breakfast. If that’s what you want, book a resort. At this price, I found the rooms more than worth it.

The room itself was clean, but that’s about the only positive. They advertised continental breakfast, yet there was none in the morning. There wasn’t even coffee available from the office, despite the coffee maker in the room. You have to enter the motel through someone else’s parking lot. The nightly rate was low, but still barely worth it. This was the worst Econo Lodge I’ve stayed at.
