Motel 6 Tucumcari, NM

I'm lying here on the second night of a three-day trip, and this Tucumcari Motel 6 has really lowered the bar for me. The previous night was at a Motel 6 in Flagstaff, and I have no complaint about that stay. Here, the room smelled strongly of smoke as soon as I walked in. I'm already getting a cold, so I spent the night with my respiratory system irritated. It's winter, yet the heater hadn't been warming the room for arriving guests. The linen wasn't clean, and since I'm afraid of bed bugs wherever I travel, I was uncomfortable the whole time. I didn't contact the staff during this stay because this shouldn't have happened in the first place. I've never had trouble with Motel 6 before. Sorry, but I paid to sleep on somebody else's hair, so I couldn't keep quiet about it. 0/10.

The room and linens were clean, but the mattress didn't offer much support. Hotter water would help, and the dog area needs to be usable. Tucumcari overall didn't feel very safe to me. There's a lot this property could improve.

I spent 9 months at this motel for work, so I've seen quite a bit, from grilling in the parking lot at sunset to hearing cops pounding on the door next to mine at 3am. It's one of my favorite places on earth, in one of the most majestic towns I've visited, with some of the greatest people and employees. When I ran into roaches, power trouble, or whatever else, the front desk would drop everything to help. I couldn't have asked for better service. They made me feel at home when I was far from home, and I'm forever grateful to this special place. Thank you, motel 6. It's been a pleasure, and I can't wait to visit again.

The outside-facing rooms made it easy to load and unload, and we were right by the interstate and Route 66, with a grocery store and some interesting shops nearby. I didn't see any bugs during our stay, which was a relief. There's no tub, just an unusual corner shower. The bed was incredibly hard, like sleeping on the floor, and the minifridge seemed broken and had mold in it.
