Motel 6 Tupelo, MS - Downtown

Big thanks to the hotel staff for helping when Hotels.com accidentally booked me into a smoking room instead of a non-smoking one. Hotels.com kept making the switch difficult, saying, "We can't change a booking after check-in time," but the hotel staff managed to sort it out.

It's right off i22, and there's a fuel station less than 1/2 a mile away, a reasonable walk if you need it. Staff were friendly and checked me in quickly. The room was clean and had no bugs. Smoking and non-smoking rooms are available.

The check-in person was very nice, but the place felt a little sketchy and needs renovations. The warped, lifted floors are a hazard for people using walkers or wheelchairs.

The room and bathroom had at least five cockroaches, which was the last straw. I also found a pill on the floor, a serious hygiene and safety concern, especially for families with kids. There were burn marks and stains all over the bedsheets, and the linens looked like they hadn't been cleaned or replaced properly in a long time. The toilet was damaged and barely working, though technically usable. A strong smell of weed was throughout the hotel and got nearly unbearable in the room. Cleanliness and guest comfort clearly didn't seem to matter. This was one of the worst lodging experiences I've had, and I can't recommend the hotel to anyone. Avoid it at all costs.
