Courtyard Tyler

The pool was out of order, though that was the least of our worries. We had booked this place while traveling to visit family, but the fourth floor hallway walls had dark patches like they'd been wet. Room 403 smelled strongly musty, mildewy, and moldy, so we reported it and were moved to 438 on the same floor. It wasn't much better. The air conditioning made the smell a little less noticeable, but it was still there. It seemed like there was water damage throughout the fourth floor. I don't know whether lower floors were affected too, but I'd be cautious about booking. We left for another hotel. We weren't charged extra, but since we booked through hotels.com, we couldn't get a refund at the hotel. We had to contact hotels.com and explain what happened to get refunded. I wouldn't recommend staying here, especially if you're booking for the pool or hot tub.

The staff were all kind and offered to move us when we mentioned the problems. They also gave us some points for our Marriott account. Still, I wouldn't stay here again. We were there over Thanksgiving 2025, and the booking through Orbitz was stressful: a week before our stay, we were told we'd have a two-bed room for only the first two nights, then would need to move to a king room with a pullout couch. That would have been a problem since my husband and I were sharing with my parents. It took a couple of days to sort out. The hot tub, one of the main reasons we booked, had apparently been out of order for months. In the shower, we saw a huge crack in the tiles under the showerhead and reported it so we wouldn't be blamed for it. On our last night, rainwater dripped from the ceiling by the shower light every 15 seconds while I showered. The beds were terribly uncomfortable and left me with back and hip pain.

The lobby was huge compared with other Courtyard hotels I've stayed in, and the holiday decorations looked lovely. At check-in, one staff member helped me while another gave my three-year-old a letter to Santa sheet to color and write on. She even got a free ice cream for doing some drawing. The room was clean, comfortable, and stocked with towels, sheets, and extra pillows for the pullout sofa. We slept well without the road noise you often get in busy areas like this. In the morning, the breakfast staff were kind to my kid and me, and made sure she had a little treat for later. Mobile checkout made leaving easy. The rooms are starting to show their age, and the firm mattress left my arm and shoulder numb for a bit. It was only one night, though, and about what I expect from hotels these days.

The chef made this stay for me. I can't remember his name, but he's African American, served great food, and was great with us. The bartender wasn't available, so the chef took care of everything. Great hotel, and I recommend stopping by the bar to get food and see him. I'll stay here every time I'm in Tyler.
